Terms & Policy
1. Song Package Policy:
Our packages are sold as described. Group packages cost $350, 1-on-1 packages cost $950, and private lessons are $95 each hour. For group and 1-on-1 lessons, full payment is required before attending lessons. Payment plans are not available. Private lessons are paid before each lesson.
2. Scheduling and Cancellation Policy:
Scheduling is done through our website calendar. Group package schedules are fixed and missed lessons cannot be rescheduled or reimbursed as it would impact other students. 1-on-1 rescheduling can be done by sending an email sent to behindpopmusic@gmail.com 48-hours in advance and then use our calendar to choose a new lesson day and time. If students in the 1-on-1 class are going on vacation or need to take off time, please email us and we will work with you.
If Behind Pop Music must cancel or move a lesson because of a sickness or conflict, we will offer the group or 1-on-1 students new date options to fit everyone’s schedules.
Once full payment is made, students and parents have until the beginning of the first lesson to cancel with a full refund given. No refunds will be given once lessons begin.
3. Safety Policies
The safety of students is our highest priority. To create the safest environment possible, we adhere to the following policies:
It is our goal that by involving parents in actively engaging with our safety policies we can work together to continue to create a safe environment for everyone. As a parent you should know and comply with the expectation that Behind Pop Music employees are prohibited from engaging in any contact, communication, or interaction with students outside of the business activities except for interacting with Behind Pop Music’s and Hunter Kino’s personal social media account(s) on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook.
Behind Pop Music Safety Policies Prohibit:

-
Corresponding with underage* students through text messaging and instant messaging.
-
Calling underage* students by telephone outside of a direct relation to a student’s lesson.

Student Dress Code
Behind Pop Music is a family environment, and while we want everyone to express themselves, we ask our students to keep the following dress code in mind:
-
Clothing should be free of inappropriate language or imagery.

4. Music and Lyrical Policy:
Parents or guardians must provide consent and acknowledge that Behind Pop Music is not held accountable for any inappropriate lyrical language used in original songs by students, Hunter Kino, or Behind Pop Music. We do not encourage explicit language in lyrics unless expressly agreed upon by parents or guardians. Parental signature is required before a song is published and distributed. No refunds will be given if parents or guardians are unhappy with the final version of the song(s).
5. Use of Photos/Videos:
Parents must provide consent for photos/videos of the class to be used as promotional material. Parents will be notified in advance when photos/videos will be taken. Behind Pop Music will reserve the right to use photographs and videos for social media, email marketing, etc.
6. Security on the Premises:
Behind Pop Music utilizes an indoor security system with video and audio being recorded and saved continuously for the safety of all students and staff.
7. Song Uploading:
Music created with Hunter Kino and utilizing Behind Pop Music's services must be uploaded for publishing and distribution by Hunter Kino to ensure proper credits are listed and royalty splits are accurate. Students are not allowed to upload the song by themselves.

8. Royalties and Credits:
Royalties are owed to all song collaborators. Platforms like Spotify require a third-party distributor for artists to upload music to their platforms. Behind Pop Music utilizes DistroKid for distribution on major streaming platforms. Behind Pop Music also uses ASCAP to collect publishing royalties under the entity name KinoMusicGroup. Students must use DistroKid because services like CD BABY only send payment to a single account so all contributors cannot get paid separately. There are two types of royalties: publishing and masters. Publishing includes songwriting (the idea of the song lyrics and melody) and composition/production (music). Masters include the final recorded performance of the music. Students will be credited through DistroKid, and their names will be listed as songwriters on Spotify under the credits section which will remain even after the program ends. Students can only collect streaming royalties by having a DistroKid subscription account, costing $20/year. If students do not create and pay for an account, they will not receive on-going royalties but will still have their names listed under the credits forever.
9. Royalty Split Breakdown:
Group Classes - Introduction to Songwriting and Becoming a Pop Recording Artist
Publishing:
Songwriting: Hunter Kino receives 20%, each students receives 20% (total student 80%)
Composition/Production: Hunter Kino retains 100%, students receive 0% no music contribution.
Masters: Hunter Kino receives 60%, each students receives 10% (total student 40%)
Songs will be released under Behind Pop Music’s record label and publishing/distribution DistroKid account and then uploaded to all major streaming platforms.
Popstar (1-on-1):
Publishing:
Songwriting: Hunter Kino receives 50%, student receives 50%
Composition/Production: Hunter Kino receives 60%, student receives 40%
Masters: Hunter Kino receives 60%, student receives 40%
Songs will be released under student’s personal DistroKid account (separate fee of $20/year paid to DistroKid) or Behind Pop Music’s record label and publishing/distribution DistroKid account and then uploaded to all major streaming platforms.
Please Note:
We highly recommend creating and paying for a $23/year DistroKid subscription account to receive streaming royalties after the song is released. Behind Pop Music will have no access to students' private DistroKid accounts. The DistroKid account gives students their own artist accounts, which will be searchable like major artist accounts on major platforms.
By proceeding with our services, you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions outlined above. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us before commencing your music-making adventure at Behind Pop Music.
